Union Construction Worker

General Summary

Typically operates machinery in burying new cable plant and service drops at customer locations and assisting with the maintenance and repair of existing cable facilities. Generally responsible for routine care and scheduling of maintenance of assigned equipment.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Places direct buried cable by operating plowing, directional boring, digging, and trenching equipment.
  • Buries service drops at customer locations.
  • Maintains heavy equipment by performing or scheduling routine and emergency maintenance.
  • Assists in maintaining buried cable by testing and repairing cable.
  • Repairs and maintains aerial cable by installing and removing aerial cable and strands, attaching hardware, inspecting and fixing lines and poles, and changing out poles and old lines as needed.
  • Installs Central Office feeder and distribution cables.
  • Installs protectors and demarcation devices at subscriber premises per RUS and company standards.
  • Performs related construction tasks as required.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned by management.*
  • A valid CDL driver’s license is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of telephone plant and line construction procedures.
  • Knowledge of company products and services.
  • Knowledge of company policies and procedures.
  • Skill in operating various heavy machinery and construction equipment.
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers and various business contacts professionally and courteously.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as maps, staking sheets, and operating and maintenance instruction manuals.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid commercial driver’s license.
  • Ability to effectively function as a team player.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 60 lbs.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail.
Education and Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent plus one year of experience operating heavy machinery, telephone plant operations, construction, and/or equipment maintenance.

Pay:

$22.36 – $25.50 per hour

Expected Hours:
