Wabash Communications CO-OP is excited to officially launch SmartTown Wi-Fi in downtown Effingham, Flora, and Louisville on May 28, 2026.
SmartTown is a free Wi-Fi network available exclusively to Wabash Communications internet customers. It is designed to help you stay connected while enjoying local shops, restaurants, events, and community spaces.
This is another way Wabash is investing in the communities we serve and bringing added value to your internet service.
What is SmartTown?
SmartTown is a secure outdoor Wi-Fi network that allows Wabash customers to automatically connect using Passpoint technology when a customer is within range of one of our designated SmartTown hotspots.
Once your SmartTown and Passpoint accounts are set up, your devices can automatically and securely connect to SmartTown hotspots without needing to repeatedly search for networks or enter passwords.
Whether you are:
- Walking downtown
- Attending a community event
- Shopping at local businesses
- Sitting in a park
- Watching a ballgame
- Enjoying a parade
your devices can stay connected automatically.
Where is SmartTown Available?
SmartTown has officially launched in the downtown areas of:
- Effingham — around the Effingham County Cultural Center and Museum and down parts of both Washington Ave and Jefferson Ave
- Flora — around Flora Public Library and down part of North Ave
- Louisville — around the Clay County Courthouse
Additional SmartTown locations are already being planned, including future expansion into parks, community gathering spaces, and other public areas throughout our service territory. We are excited to continue to grow Wabash SmartTown in our service area.
Who Can Use SmartTown?
SmartTown is available exclusively to active Wabash customers.
There is:
- No extra monthly fee
- No separate subscription
- No public password sharing
It is just an included perk of being a Wabash customer.
How Do I Get Connected?
On May 28, 2026, all Wabash customers received two onboarding emails from:
- onboarding@smarttownwifi.com
- welcome@smarttownwifi.com
These emails are legitimate and safe to open.
Inside the emails, you will find instructions to:
- Create your SmartTown account
- Download and install your Passpoint profile
- Connect your devices
The Passpoint profile is required in order for your devices to connect automatically to SmartTown hotspots.
You must download your Passpoint profile to every device you want to automatically connect to SmartTown when within range.

Is SmartTown Secure?
Yes.
All SmartTown connections are encrypted and protected. Unlike many public Wi-Fi networks, SmartTown is built with security in mind to help reduce risks while using public internet access.
Customers can browse, stream, work remotely, and stay connected more securely while away from home. Wabash SmartTown is also equipped with ProtectIQ and ExperienceIQ to make it even safer.
Why is Wabash Launching SmartTown?
At Wabash, we believe reliable service should extend beyond your home.
SmartTown is part of our ongoing commitment to:
- Strengthen our communities
- Improve connectivity across rural Illinois
- Support local events
- Deliver more value to our customers
- Invest in future-ready technology
As SmartTown expands, customers will be able to use the same SmartTown account and Passpoint setup across all future hotspot locations.
